POPS Chief Executive Diane Curry OBE pictured with Baroness Young and guests at POPS head office.
This week POPS welcomed Baroness Lola Young to its head office to meet with local providers of services to BAME offenders as part of the Young Review which is looking at improving outcomes for young black and/or Muslim males in the Criminal Justice System (18-24).
The objective of the review is:
- to contribute to commissioning design to ensure the needs of such offenders are addressed
- to provide examples of best practice
- to improve collation and understanding of evidence relating to the experiences of young Black/Muslim men in the CJS
- and to address the disproportionate poorer outcomes experienced by such men.
POPS invited representation from Manchester Metropolitan University, Communities on Solid Ground, Community Change Foundation and ex offenders themselves to a forum to discuss their experiences. After the meeting at POPS, Baroness Young travelled to HMP Buckley Hall to talk to a group of Muslim prisoners at a meeting organised by POPS.
