POPS have been recently advised that a new card payment system will be introduced on 15th Nov across all public sector prisons which will enable families to send money to prisoners by bank transfer or card payment. This will avoid families having to pay excessive charges for postal orders and should also mean the money shows on a prisoner’s account quicker.
This new system does not replace the usual system of sending cash, cheques or postal orders. It is an extra service that allows faster, cheaper and more secure payments to a prisoner’s account. Money sent using this new service will reach a prisoner’s account within 1-3 working days in most cases. As a family member you will need the prisoner’s number and date of birth to use this service. Money cannot be sent in person by going into a bank branch or from overseas.
