The Welfare Service has been jointly commissioned by Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA) and HM Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) to work in the community with people on probation – to help them meet their goals and aspirations by providing them with all the tools, information and support they need to succeed.
As part of the Greater Manchester Wellbeing Service, POPS’ Family Support Service works with men and women on probation in the community to:
- equip their families/significant others to support the person on probation to successfully complete their order/license conditions.
- improve or stabilise family relationships, reducing the potential risk of homelessness.
- identify and address any ongoing relationship matters that may affect desistance.
This service can be accessed irrespective of the nature of the offence.
POPS’ Family Support Service delivers advice, support & signposting:
- enabling the building and maintaining of positive, supportive relationships.
- supporting conflict resolution.
- supporting the whole family with any housing or financial issues, where they could impact negatively on the person on probation.
- addressing physical and mental health needs within the family unit where this may impact negatively on the person on probation.
- supporting referrals to specialist services/agencies.
POPS works directly with the person on probation to undertake a family and social network mapping exercise and obtain consent to communicate with a nominated family member/significant other.
People can access the service via a referral from a probation worker.
Anyone currently engaging with the probation system can access the service for free, at locations that suit them across Greater Manchester.
